(Cranston, RI) - Cranston East’s girls soccer celebrated their Senior Night lastWednesday, facing off against Classical. Entering the final game of the season, the ‘Bolts had already secured a spot in the Division-III playoff in their last outing. On a night to honor their graduating teammates, the ‘Bolts finished the regular season off, dropping their match 2-0.
The Thunderbolts honored their five seniors Norah Flinn, Gabriella Ponte, Alany Avila, Estefany Valera, and Kylie McCreavy pregame with their families.
The ‘Bolts consistently challenged Classical’s Yurida Gamarro Perez in goal with scoring threats all throughout the first half. Despite this, the game remained scoreless after 40 minutes of play.
Classical looked better in the second half, pressuring the Thunderbolts side of the field and defending much better. It paid off as Carolyn Myrus found the back of the net on a penalty kick for the first goal by either team in the contest. Before time ran out, Classical was able to put one more in the back of the net and put any hopes of a Thunderbolt comeback to rest.
Running out of time to score, the Thunderbolts got a few more chances but it was not to be. Classical held on to their 2-0 lead to spoil East’s senior night.
